Ben Feringa (Barger-Compascuum, Holanda, 1951)aurrekaria da dimentsio ñimiñoen ikerketan.

2016ko Nobel Saria jaso zuen Fraser Stoddart eta Jean-Pierre Sauvage ikerlariekin batera. Feringak lortu du lehen motor molekularra, kotxe bat lau gurpil dituena, ile bat baino mila aldiz estuagoa.

“Nire aurreikuspena da 30 edo 40 urtetan mediku batek mikro-submarino bat injektatu ahal izango duela eta tumore-zelula bat eraso edo botika bat garraiatu ahal izango duela. Nik egin dut adierazpen hau, 50 urtetan zirujau-errobot bat injektatuko dugu gorputzean. Hau zientzia fikzioa da, baina posiblea da”.

The fact that in June, one of the influential US Gordon conferences focused for the first time on molecular machines and their potential applications is a clear sign that the field has come of age. The field has indeed reached a turning point, Feringa comments in Nature: Now the field has reached a turning point. “We've made 50 or 60 different motors,” he says. “I'm less interested in making another motor than actually using it.”
